The applause from an audience at the end of a great routine can bring you to tears. They just model what you teach them and go for it. The older we get, we tend to take on beliefs about what we can or can’t do. As Henry Ford said, “if you believe you can, or you believe you can’t, you are absolutely right”. The beliefs you hold as a teacher are really important. In my experience, if you believe your students will struggle with your choreography, they will struggle. If you believe people won’t come back again to your class, they won’t come back. If you believe you’re not good enough, you won’t be good enough. Equally if you have positive beliefs about yourself and your teaching, these beliefs are communicated unconsciously to your students. You don’t even need to speak your beliefs verbally, your positive beliefs are communicated through everything that you do.
